Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about our kindergarten programs, tours, registration processes, and age requirements.

Q

Is Beaconsfield Kindergarten a standalone kinder?

Yes, our kinder programs run on specific days and set times coinciding with the Victorian Government school terms.

Q

Can I tour the kindergarten prior to registration or enrolment?

Yes, please contact us to arrange a suitable time. Alternatively, our kinder is open to the public in May, during Education Week. This is also a great time to visitβ€”an opportunity to view the environment and speak to staff as well as committee members to learn more about our kinder.

Q

How do I register for kindergarten?

Kindergarten registrations for our service are managed centrally through the local council. You can register online via the Cardinia Shire Council portal:

Q

When can my child start kindergarten?

To find out the exact eligibility criteria and starting age guidelines for 3 and 4-year-old kindergarten programs, please refer to the Victorian Government quick guide:

Q

What is a community kindergarten?

Our Committee is made up primarily of parents and carers from our kindergarten community and acts as the Approved Provider, with responsibility for the governance and oversight of the service.

The Committee works closely with our Campus Manager, who supports the day-to-day operations of the kindergarten, as well as our dedicated staff. Together, our Committee, Campus Manager, and staff work collaboratively to make important decisions about governance, service operations, and the ongoing development of our kindergarten.

🀝 This model means families have an active role in supporting and shaping the kindergarten their children attend, helping us respond directly to the needs of our children, families, and wider community.
Q

What do I bring to kinder?

Starting kinder is exciting! To help your child feel comfortable, independent and ready for a day of learning and play, please pack the following each session:

πŸŽ’ A Named Kinder Bag

Please provide a large, sturdy bag clearly labelled with your child's name. Your child should be able to carry and manage their own bag as independently as possible.

πŸ’§ Water Bottle

Bring a clearly named drink bottle every day. Please fill it with fresh water only. Choose a bottle your child can recognise and open independently.

πŸ₯— Snack & Lunch

Please provide your child's snack and/or lunch in a clean, clearly labelled container. We encourage healthy foods such as:

  • πŸ“ Fresh fruit
  • πŸ₯’ Vegetables
  • πŸ§€ Cheese
  • πŸ₯ͺ Sandwiches
  • πŸ‡ Dried fruit

⚠️ Please do not send nuts. A healthy lunch box keeps the children's energy levels high for the whole session. Use an ice pack when needed to keep food cool.

🧺 Spare Clothes

Messy play is an important part of kinder! Please keep a complete change of clothes in your child's bag, including:

πŸ‘• Top πŸ‘– Pants 🩲 Underwear 🧦 Socks

Please make sure all clothing is clearly labelled with your child's name.

πŸ‘Ÿ Closed-Toe Shoes

Children are busy throughout the day running, climbing, balancing and exploring. Please make sure your child wears comfortable, secure, closed-toe shoes that allow them to safely participate in indoor and outdoor play. Please avoid thongs, Crocs and open-toe sandals. Shoes should ideally be easy for your child to put on and take off independently.

πŸ‘’ SunSmart Hat

A named broad-brimmed hat is required during the SunSmart period. Please check Beaconsfield Kindergarten's Sun Protection Policy for current requirements.

πŸ§₯ Weather-Appropriate Clothing

We play outside in all kinds of weather, so please dress your child appropriately:

❄️ Cooler weather

  • Warm coat
  • Beanie
  • Warm layers

β˜€οΈ Warmer weather

  • Cool, comfortable play clothes
  • SunSmart hat
  • Clothing allowing plenty of movement

🎨 Dress for Play! Kinder can be messy β€” and that's a good thing!

Please choose comfortable play clothes that can get dirty and are easy for your child to manage independently. Painting, clay, water, sand and outdoor play are all part of the kinder experience.

🏷️ Our biggest tip: LABEL EVERYTHING!

Please clearly label: Bags β€’ Drink bottles β€’ Lunch boxes β€’ Hats β€’ Coats β€’ Jumpers β€’ Shoes β€’ Spare clothes

Items such as hats, jumpers and coats are easily removed during the day, so names make it much easier to return belongings to their owner.

🌿 Bush Kinder

If your child is attending Bush Kinder, there are some additional requirements. Children need suitable clothing for the weather, sturdy closed-toe shoes, long pants and long sleeves. Please refer to the Bush Kinder information provided by Beaconsfield Kindergarten for the complete requirements.

With a named bag, water bottle, healthy food, spare clothes and safe footwear, your child will be ready for a fun day of learning, exploring, creating and playing!
